Port Austin Reef Light
Historic 1878 offshore lighthouse on Lake Huron.
The Port Austin Reef Light is an offshore lighthouse on a rocky reef in Lake Huron, about 2.5 miles north of Port Austin, marking the turning point between Saginaw Bay and Lake Huron. First lit on September 15, 1878, it is a square yellow-brick tower (about 60 feet tall) with an attached keeper's dwelling; it was automated in 1953 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
The Port Austin Reef Light Association (PARLA) restored and now stewards the light, and has offered public pontoon-boat tours since 2018. The lighthouse is easily viewed from Bird Creek Park and the breakwall.
